Since I have been blogging for almost one whole year I have noticed one very interesting fact. There are way more women who blog about art than there are men! I know there are many, many fantastic male artists, I guess they just don’t feel the need to talk, but rather are content to simply--create.
Some experts think the reason that men are the strong, silent type though has a lot to do with brainpower. Relax girls; no one is saying men are smarter; they just don’t have the capacity for emotions as women. We all knew that right? Their brains are hardwired to think about um, uh shall we say other things?
When my husband and I were dating I would write him long emails professing undying love. He would basically say the same thing in one sentence.
When I give him a greeting card, I pretty much add a long, book length sentiment in addition to the one on the card. When he gives me a card, I had to pull teeth just to get him to write his name.
I guess it’s hard for me to understand, coming from a family of talker’s male and female. So maybe it just has to do with writing it down. Could the reason for husband dear’s (and perhaps other men as well) silence in print be due to the fact that he is a hunt and peck one finger typist? I must admit that using a cell phone keyboard is a bit daunting even to me.
Whatever the case may be, this past birthday, my husband eagerly presented me with a card. When I opened it, he had added an extra sentence. There he stood with a big goofy grin like a three year old waiting for approval. He tries, and you gotta love a man that tries.
How about it, are there any men out there who would like to explain the reason for this unequal amount of art bloggers? Any thoughts from the women?
Remember just a few days till my blogoversary so be sure to let me know if you want to be in on the giveaway!

Crystal, I have a cute story for you about my hubby, and writing me notes. Over 40 years ago when we married, I had two small children from a first marriage. So of course it was a matter of having my hubby work days, and I worked nights. This way the children were able to be at home with me or my hubby, while the other one worked. To make a long story short...I would find love notes written from him to me on toilet tissue!!! Not sitting on the table or someplace where I might find them, but still on the roll in the bathroom!!! I still have them safely put away. After all...in these hard times, you never know if we'll run out of toilet paper!!! Only kidding! My little TP notes mean the world to me~~~
Hugs,
Jan
Ok, this post and then Jan's story have me laughing so hard that the tears are just rolling. Love this! All I have to say is God help us all if more men were hardwired emotionally like women. I dated a writer/poet once...not sure I could survive doing it again. You can't get a word in edgewise and they fight like cats without any of the graceful feminine nuances. I guess it just depends on what part of the art world one is looking. In Illustration there are a good bit of me blogging (ie. posting their images but saying little else about them). They are more VISUAL after all, so those types of posts me sense. The put up the work and say "I Made This!"
I meant 'good bit of men blogging' zeesh, talk about a Freudian slip. And WOW! I meant 'those types of posts MAKE sense.' What the hay? What is going on with me and men today?
I love this post because it is SO true!! My husband is exactly the same way. And what a great guy you have, all proud about that extra sentence! That's awesome. :)
That is so cute, and so special, what your hubby did for your birthday ;o) I don't know about the men and blogging? Maybe they would rather be watching sports ;o) Have a good one!
I'm really fortunate. My husband leaves little notes everywhere and always writes some lovely prose on my birthday and valentine's cards :)
Great post...so true.
I would love to be in yr giveaway.
Awww, you found a good one for your husband. :) That's the cutest story! I was lucky with my fiance, too. He's very sensitive and emotional, and very sweet. You're right about male bloggers, though. Recently I made a list of the blogs a visit most often, and all of them were womens' blogs except for one. It was a little sad. :/ I don't know why that would be; maybe women are more sociable creatures.
Ha, what a great post, and so true! I love how your husband added the extra line to the card, so cute.
Great post and a good point. I hadn't thought about it but you're right. I'd say maybe 2% of the blogs I follow are by men.
Good points here. I know a lot of men enjoy art, but agree, they don't really discuss it. But then men don't really like to discuss much anyway : )
I remember reading somewhere that women talk three times more than men. Women have something like 20,000 words a day. I wonder if that includes typing? Nice post Crystal :)
Men write hunting and sports blogs. Once I was complaining about my husband not talking, listening or sharing emotions enough. A friend said if he did all those things I just described he would be gay. Get a girlfriend.
