Creative Tuesdays…Breakfast rules or does it just have rules?

Just coffee please, ACEO

As a rule (I know its not good for you so don’t judge me) I never eat breakfast.  I just can’t seem to work up much of an appetite in the mornings.  If you think about it there is not much to choose from.  So since Creative Tuesdays at goodteatoo.blogspot.com the theme is breakfast I had to really think hard about this one.

On the other hand, breakfast is my husband’s favorite meal.  He can eat it morning, noon and night.  Me, I like variety and breakfast doesn’t have a lot of that unless you consider the way you cook your eggs.  Oh yeah, there are always sweets like cereals, donuts, and pancakes. These are also breakfast-approved items, but…whom might I ask does the approving?

I would like to know who wrote the breakfast rules. If you eat a hamburger before the clock strikes 12 will the breakfast police arrest you?  I guess if you really wanted to shake things up you could have a pepperoni pizza.

Restaurants must have a copy of the breakfast rulebook.  Just you try and order something that is not on that limited list before the designated time frame. I pull into a drive-through at 10:30 a.m. and tell the cheerful but garbled voice that I would like a cheeseburger. (I know I shouldn’t but cut me some slack here, like you don’t break your diet once in a while)

“You want what?”

“We don’t serve cheeseburgers before 11:30.  How about a sausage and egg biscuit?”

Don’t misunderstand me I like eggs in moderation, but I settle for the breakfast of  un-champions…coffee, black.

  3. I have wondered the same thing myself! Does it really make a difference what food we eat at what time of day?? If I'm going to eat a big "breakfast", I actually prefer it at supper-time! Love your post, and your drawing! Very realistic looking! :-)

  5. Steak and Shake serves dinner 24/7....I'm just sayin...

Actually, I'm quite like your hubby--I could have breakfast at any time of the day--eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, grits, croissants, toast and jam--these things make me giddy with delight.

I do understand your half of it as well, though. My housemate is a latte in the mornings girl, so I've gotten quite used to the wonders of people who run without "real" food.

Your drawing is lovely. Fantastic job with the color variation

  6. I love my coffee in the morning! That's it, the rest is based on mood. Still enjoy a slice of leftover sausage and mushroom pizza right out of the fridge :D

    Great ACEO, Crystal!

  7. I usually miss it because I am running around, late to get out the door to school drop-off and work. I like the snooze button too much. I love your hot cuppa though. I NEVER miss my morning cuppa joe!

  8. Just coffee is good....cute drawing and loved your provocative narrative... Yes, who says you can't have any meal anytime anywhere.

    Good thinking.

  9. A cup of joe has been my breakfast choice as far back as this memory seems to travel. I do enjoy breakfast foods but never in the morning. Good drawing. Looks just like the cup I'm drinking from.

  15. There's nothing like a steaming cup of very black coffee in the morning. And as far as something more substantial, one of my favorite breakfasts is pizza, right out of the fridge.

  20. It looks so steamy hot and bubbly, great job. I'm a firm believer of eating whatever you want at whatever time. I've had cole slaw for breakfast, snacks; pizza for supper, breakfast. In fact I had that cole slaw for breakfast today :) yummmm!

  21. Hi! I'm here from CT! I LOVE your take on breakfast!! In fact, I made a "menu" of breakfast items and wrote on it "breakfast served all day"!! How funny that you talked about what time is breakfast!! Love it!
    I'm also following you now!

  22. Now that Don is gone I don't eat breakfast all the time either (no real incentive to fix it)...I've been breaking the breakfast rule for years...so far the Breakfast Police haven't caught up with me! I've done the pepperoni pizza thing too...but the best one I ever did was apple pie with ice cream...it was a big deal cause I was a teenager and never been allowed to have anything for breakfast but what was considered breakfast food. Yeehaw for Martha!

  24. Oh dear! I'm out of step here - it's only the thought of my toast and marmalade that gets me out of bed in the morning, after a big bowl of cereal with fruit and nuts or yogurt and grapefruit, all washed down with a pot of tea!

But your lovely cup of coffee would go down well a couple of hours later!

  27. The coffee sounds wonderful, a little cream please... or maybe some tea... but the rest of the fixins will need to wait a bit.

  28. You know what is funny, Crystal, is I don;t eat breakfast myself--maybe a yoghurt and always tea, so I relate to this post..and that art, which is brilliant, btw. Love those bubbles on the top of the tea or coffee. Mmm.

I somehow can't imagine you'd ever eat a cheeseburger for breakfast btw if you dont have much of an appetite, but if you can, by all means. :)
