Creative Tuesdays and The Color Purple, Irises

I don’t grow too many flowers but I do have a lot of Irises.  They are just so cool!  Most people when they think of an Iris don’t realize that they come in lots and lots of different colors. The word Iris is from the Greek and means, rainbow.  And that description is just so fitting. I mean there are hundreds of Iris colors. In my garden the colors take turns appearing from one year to the next.  It is always like opening a present when they bloom.

Purple Iris is symbolic of wisdom and compliments.  Blue Iris symbolizes faith and hope.  Yellow Iris symbolizes passion while white Iris symbolizes purity.  I could on and on since there are many, many Iris colors but I think I will just enjoy the colors and leave it at that.

And now for Creative Tuesdays at Mr. Toasts…well the theme is purple and what better describes that oh so regal color than the purple Iris.  Be sure to check out all the other entries in this week’s theme!

    Oh my goodness, your iris look like purple velvet. Just stunning!!! Also love the explanation of the rainbow colors of the iris.

    Those iris should be matted and framed!!

    Your painting of the irises is lovely. Irises are my favorite flower that grows in my yard, and they are so hardy and strong even I can't kill them. Your painting is perfect for the color purple.

    #1 I love purple, love iris. Did not know all the great info you provided though. I only have the purple iris in my landscape. Great job on the painting.

    Oh, this is so beautiful! Makes me miss the irises we had in my yard as a child; they were the purple variety, but with fewer "ruffles." These are so sweet! I can't imagine them behaving like the snooty iris in Alice in Wonderland ;)

    Wow, I love how these are not only realistic and 3 dimensional but also that they are not simply that which would leave me feeling rather dry--no, they add artistic impression too with the way you've done the clouds and such. This must have taken you ages! Right, that's it, I'm chucking in my pens and art stuff now! LOL. no, seriously, this is amazing. I'd buy this if you had it in etsy. Love to hang it in my bathroom. one of the most memorable CTs I've seen yet. TY for doing this, Crsytal.

    Also, LOVED reading about the various Irises. Who would have guessed yellow ones meant passion, for example?

    I don't know how you were able to create that amazing sky with acrylic paints, but I am definitely stunned. :D The painting is incredible! I love irises. You captured them perfectly. :)

    You may not have the right soil for roses, Crystal but you're obviously very good with irises, both growing them and painting them!

    Mine are only just coming out, later than the roses this year! But I don't think I'd dare to try and paint them!
