Dagnabbit yet again

Your guess is as good as mine

What is up with the captcha lately? My old friend "Captcha" is all new and evidently updated.  It was bad enough when they were just weird words, now all of a sudden I find not one, but two words-- and they are twisty and mangled as if they just survived an automobile accident.  I practically stand on my head and look this way and that way. Finally I cry uncle and just hit the whirly button which gives me two more chances to sit there scratching my head!  And they say crossword puzzles give you a brain workout.

I know that computers troll the Internet and post anonymous comments on blogs advertising things that I doubt anyone would ever buy, but they keep trying. I get it.  These sneaky computers are getting better at their job. They are getting good at making their comments appear legitimate. Scroll down, however, and one will see the link for diet pills, gambling sites, or male enhancement drugs at the bottom. The Captcha is disabled on my blogs and yes, I do get several Anonymous comments a day that my trusty spam filter catches and corrals. I simply hit delete…and they are gone.  Poof!  I hope I said that loud enough for those pesky computers to hear!  MY SPAM FILTER CATCHES AND I DELETE...

As for commenting on other blogs that still have Captcha. Some sites test your elementary knowledge.  They want to know what 2 +5 equals. No problem. Some ask you the color of the ocean.  Elementary-- my dear Watson and I can handle that without an issue. And then there are the twisty words... and up pops that oh so familiar red highlighted message that tells me I have entered the wrong letters.  I turn my head, I look sideways, and finally I just guess. I wonder, though, if I guess wrong 3 times am I out? Or can I keep guessing to infinity and beyond?

I “guess” we will see. In the words of Elmer Fudd....Dagnabbit!

  1. they are making blogging a very difficult place for at thistime, I agree, delete your own! I have never had word verification on my blog and i only get a couple a week, I delete them.

  2. I don't use word verification and now don't comment on blogs that have WV any more (and posted that up in the corner of my blog). As you said, you can just delete the few spam comments that try to sneak through. They're easy to spot. Even when they try to sound legit with their broken English, the links give them away every time--LOL! I have had it with WV. ;)

  3. I find those word verification things a pain in the neck and like you I do a lot of refreshing so I can finally read it. Sadly, it makes me not even want to leave a comment anymore.

  4. I agree it is a pain! And not necessary! I wish everyone would remove it. The filters work just fine!

  5. It's been a relief when so many of the PPF'ers turned off the Captcha code. Commenting has become a lot easier and faster.

  7. Totally with you there dagnabbit! My other pet hate lately on Blogger is that many blogs seem to have a bug where the 'post a comment' box has completely disappeared! If I want o leave a comment I have to look up the contact details and send an e-mail! This is closely followed by the bug bear that Blogger doesn't seem to be aware (there's no way to report) and therefore they aren't fixing! Double dagnabbit!

  8. You are sooooo right. I have very limited vision, and these words are a torture to me. I just try to avoid blogs now that have them - pity! Valerie

  10. I just came from a site where I entered the wrong combination of squiggles three times. I feel like such a dunce and must assume I'm a robot since I keep failing to prove otherwise. I haven't had WV for ages and haven't had a problem.

  11. I am so grateful our posts on PPF addressing this have been listened to - not even 10% of those who participated this week had it on. (Yay!! Thank you!)

I have started mentioning it when I come across it - because it is a default with blogger and because "new" blogger doesn't even let you access that setting (you have to revert to "old blogger to change it - how bizarre is that!) many people who have it on son't even know it! Usually pointing it out gets it turned off. What was Blogger thinking with this horrid captcha??

  12. Crystal, I totally agree with everything you said! I hate those stupid words, especially now that there is two! I don't use them and I have to admit, if I try more than 2 times, on someone's blog, I give up and move on! ;o)
