Derecho. It's a term I've never heard of in all my life. A derecho is described as a straight line wind storm with winds up to 150 miles per hour. Ours was a mere 80 MPH. I will be able to tell my grandchildren who will not know what a derecho is of the five days of no power in blistering heat. I will talk of running a portable generator to save the food in the fridge and freezer only to let it all go after day 4 anyway. Linemen traveled from many states to help in the effort to fix all the outages and I feel for those who are STILL without power! I'm no scientist and I don't know much about global warming, but I can tell you that it was never this hot when I was a kid!
Today is supposed to break all records, with heat and humidity making it feel like it is 114 degrees. (In the shade)
Derecho,
Please never visit me again.
Sincerely,
Crystal
I've never heard of a derecho, either. And we get straight line winds here, too--but more like 50-80mph usually.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you had to deal with the power outage for that long--and lost all your frig and freezer food! I hope everybody gets their power back soon and it cools down!!
A new word for me, and like you would never want a visit from it. Certainly a story to pass down to the grandkids.
ReplyDelete114...Yikes!
The weather seems to be globally crazy just now! Valerie
ReplyDeleteI have never heard that word either, this weather is scary crazy!! Take care,
ReplyDeleteso global warming apparently means frying in our own grease...not good! the highest I remember it getting in my youth (over 60 years ago) was 105 mid summer, of course there was no AC and the only outages I remember came with hurricanes and ice storms!
ReplyDeletebeautiful painting, a great way to 'think' cool!
ReplyDeletei agree, it was NEVER this hot when we were little....and i never remember the storms being as severe...and it's only july...rememvber the nightmare of a hurricane that left us with no power for 5 days....uggg,,,,my husband and i are thinking a generator is definitely in order!
ReplyDeletehugs!

Derecho is a new word for me to add to my word stash. I can't even imagine winds up to 150 miles an hour. I've been through storms with winds of 80 miles an hour and that was scary enough for me. I really was expecting to hear that your electricity was restored and all was well. Take care and hopefully this coming week the temperatures will drop and the winds will be nothing more than light breezes. Hugs
ReplyDeleteLovely painting Crystal! I think the weather is off all over the country right now.
ReplyDeleteI agree! It has never been this hot for me either! Beautiful painting!
ReplyDeleteDerecho. Is it Spanish? Yes I just answered my own question. Right, straight, straight line. I agree, not this hot before. Take care. Terah
