S-no-w 2012

The Virginia Snowman

Honestly, I have been a bit disappointed lately considering that it is already January and I had yet to see the first snowflake.  I shouldn’t be surprised since we don’t usually get too much snow in the temperate Virginia climate. So far this winter has been milder than expected with the temperature just yesterday spiking up to 68 degrees! I was beginning to think there would be no snow this year. Then today, out of nowhere (The weather forecasters had egg on their faces again) it started to snow.

It started slow, with little specks of something just a tad more solid than rain.  After a few minutes there was no question, as the tiny specks enlarged to big, white, fluffy actual snowflakes. Sadly for the real snow lovers the precipitation was scant.  If you were to measure the total amounts, you would be using millimeters instead of inches.  The first snowfall of 2012 is a dusting.

Unlike the winter of two years ago that broke all records, there will be no snow angels unless one wants to add a bit of dirt to the mix.  There will be no snowmen unless they are 6 inches high.  There will be no endless scrabble and monopoly games, videos, and cabin fever.  There will be bread, milk, and toilet paper still in ample supply at all local grocery stores.  But best of all for me anyway, there will be no shoveling through 3 feet of piled up snow at 7 a.m. in 20-degree temperatures carving out an small area while a dainty, prissy, short-legged 11 lb. Jack Russell terrier waits patiently on the porch--like a queen preparing for...dare I say it?  What the heck...like a queen waiting to use the throne!

Don't forget to check out my new blog makeiteasycrafts.blogspot.com it is slowly but surely coming along.

I can see the Jack Russell...waiting patiently!

Last year snow up to the eves...this year not so much! If snow didn't do so much to get moisture down deep into the soil...I'd vote for no snow...think however I'd better go for SNOW!

Enjoyed having you come by Theanne and Baron for a visit!

What a dear little snowman!

It's been unusually mild here too all winter so far and the plants in the garden are all sprouting as if it was spring - including giving off pollen :(

But my daughter bought me a pair of snow boots just before Christmas and I'm beginning to think that's why we haven't had any snow!

How strange to see everyone writing about no snow. I can remember years where it was just the opposite everywhere. Must be a cycle we're going through. Love the little snowman just as I love all snowmen.

we had one wonderful snow but now it's gone and it looks like spring! I need a good foot or two that stays on the ground! I'm sure it will come eventually.

Your little snow man is adorable!

sounds like you live next door to me. haha... my son is confused. He asked me if it was spring. I told him no it was winter and he said well then why isn't it snowing?

I love that image of your doggie waiting. We have had one tiny dusting of snow here that melted within the hour... Last year we had heaps, but it did cause chaos... but it was pretty!!

You always "paint" such a vivid picture with your words! I can just see your dog waiting patiently while thinking, "Hurry Up!"

It is the same here in NJ. We had a freak snow storm in October and got about 18 inches. Since then, no snow, and it isn't even really cold!! I'm worried that it is going to snow like a foot a day in March!!

We are suppose to have some snow tomorrow. Really, after last year I'd just as soon skip it. :)
