Diary of a klutz

Have you ever watched reruns of the old 1960’s Dick Van Dyke show on TV or  Netflix?  If you haven’t then you have missed some of the world’s greatest klutzy moments.  Dick Van Dyke was a master of physical comedy and the show opens with him tripping over a misplaced ottoman.  His arms splay out and he lands flat on his face.  In later episodes the show opens with him carefully sidestepping the ottoman, and averting his fall.  At least he learns from experience.

I admit that I am a bit klutzy and I fall often.  I have taken rides down my stairs on my bottom and more often than I’d like to admit walk into glass doors face first. (I mean who cleans glass that streak free anyway?) The bruises I have cultivated can be quite artistic and colorful.  My favorite was one that resembled the Aurora Borealis with the blues and greens changing colors daily.

While I manage to steer clear of ottomans, cobblestones on the other hand get me every time.  The other day, since it was a clear and beautiful spring day my husband and I decided to take a walk in the historic part of town.  Yes, the streets are quaintly cobbled.

It wasn’t long before my bottom and the sidewalk met in a very embarrassing manner.  My husband stared in disbelief as I flew through the air and not so gracefully landed in front of him.  Fortunately the only thing bruised this time was my pride.  I think I will take a cue from good old Dick Van Dyke and just steer clear of…cobblestones.

Have a great Monday everyone...today it's rainy here in the old dominion.

Yes, cobblestones can be dangerous! Our little town is completely paved with them, and I have learned to be very careful how I tread!

I'm a klutz as well. I have been known to trip over my own feet and I wear a size four shoe so I'd say that makes me really klutzy!! Love your painting. Enjoy your day.

Loving your beautiful painting. I adore Dick Van Dykes slapstick humour. Hope you keep your feet firmly on the ground in the near future.....xx

several years ago I had a series of falls...mainly on my knees. I began to wonder if I had a medical or neurological problem. eventually I stopped falling...maybe I just became more careful?! I'm happy you're ok...love the painting!

Crystal, I have a neighbour like that and whenever I'm with him he's constantly telling me to, 'Watch out', 'Mind that cable', 'Don'trip over that stool'and so on and I end up a nervous wreck!

Being a literacy teacher when I wear my other hat, we've discovered he's dyslexic. And dyspraxia often accompanies dyslexia - aka 'Clumsy Child Syndrome'!!!!

Yes, cobblestones can be so uneven. Now I am picturing Dick VanDyke in that opening sequence--LOL! Loved that show. :)

You poor girl! I remember once in Montreal, I was site seeing and walked right into a lamp post! Boy, did that hurt. As soon as I hit, I landed on my butt. But, I had to laugh! LOL! Love the painting ;o)

I know the klutz part well! You are fortunate no serious harm from your meeting with the cobblestones. Love your Northern Lights!

I've walked into plenty of things in my travels, too! Glad the only thing hurt was your pride. If your bruises are as beautiful as your Northern Lights, I would show them off proudly!

Hey being a klutz is one thing, however, I fall and trip all the time too. Have most of my life. Mine turned out to be part of the lupus and the growths on my brain. I wouldn't normally write this but you sound just like me. Ever been checked out?
I hope you are just a klutz.

Loved the klutz & Dick Van Dyke made it look so real... think that's why I have a soft spot for 'Funniest Home Videos' :) I came via Gloria's post, pleased I dropped by!

Crystal, we are indeed kindred klutzy sisters. In the span of 24 hours one day last week I tore the door off the stock trailer, dropped a brick on my husbands bare toe, stepped in a hole and fell down, got the 4-wheeler stuck in the creek and dropped my phone in the pond. Whew... It's exhausting. Terah
